YMCA Day Camp? Do You Take Reservations For Next Summer, Yet?

We work from home. Both The Man and I work from home. This summer we decided to NOT schedule the kids in any activities. No day camps, no playdates, no sleep away adventures. Nope. We decided that since we were both home we’d just keep the little darlings home with us.

I cannot express to you what a big mistake that was.

Every day Munchkin lets out about a dozen ear piercing screams because some great injustice has been done to her. Every day Bug lets out a dozen roars of anger and frustration because one of his siblings has used something of his, broken something of his, or just plain gotten in his way. Every day Goober bursts into tears because no one wants to play with him.

Every day I hear “Mommy!” “Mommy,” “Mommy?” at least 100 times for things as trivial as “Can I get a glass of water?” to “I HATE little brothers!”

The Man and I have aged a decade this summer.

We are tired, we are haggard, we need a break.

We are counting down the days until school starts. August 18th, baby.

It’s not that we don’t love our little monsters, we do. I loved Munchkin today when she told me that lasagna was DISGUSTING and she WAS NOT going to eat it! I loved her even when I told her quite sternly that I was not her own personal short order cook and she’d eat what I gave her and if she didn’t like it she could pack up and go find another family to live with. I loved her so much that I left it to The Man to chase her down when she packed up her Bratz backpack, grabbed her Dragon Tales blanket, and walked out the front door.

I loved Goober today when he filled up his trick or treat pumpkin with water to play with in his room, spilling half of the contents in the hallway on his way only for The Man to step in and nearly kill himself moments later. I loved him when he burst into tears screaming “I SOWWY! I SOWWY!”

I loved Bug when he elbowed his little brother in the face while using the computer because Goober wanted to see what he was doing and Bug didn’t want him around.

Yes, I love them all. All the time. But I don’t always like them a whole heck of a lot.

Goober

I so know the feeling! 8/18 can't get here soon enough.
And that comment up there made me LOL!

You are not alone!
Consensus around here is that we should have countdown calendars to the first day of school just like those fun ones the kids have to count down to Christmas!
12 more days, 12 more days, 12 more days!

This post brings to mind the Staples commercial where the dad takes the kids shopping for school supplies. The music is playing in the background...."It's the MOST wonderful time of the year"!!! How true. How true. I get the same feeling, and I have a 16 year old :)

Ah, summer vacation. Good times. :) Mine went back to school this week! Whooo!! (It cracked me up when you said your daughter grabbed her Bratz pillow and Dragon Tales blanket and headed for the door. That is so something my daughter would do.)

OMG I can't even imagine. We decided that for the last two weeks before school started just the oldest could be managed at home with me. I'm on day three and I think I'm going to kill her!!! I'm counting down the days till Aug 18.

See I can laugh hysterically at this post because mine are so much older. Because if I don't laugh I am reminded of the one summer I too did the same thing and kept the little darlings at home to entertain. All the mommy juice in china can't prepare a parent for that much entertaining!

"...I love them all. All the time. But I don’t always like them..." I feel that way about my husband some times. I think I'd go nuts if my husband worked from home. There are some weekends I so look forward to Mondays.

It is so nice to know that I am not alone in my feelings. My hubby works from home too, for a large corporation...with three little girls running around all summer like banshees...we too decided to forego our normal gazillion camps...he has had enough! Unfortunately for me the first day all of them will be back is the 19th...little one starts on Tuesday not Monday...however on that date I will be enjoying the solitude of my home...I think I will ban hubby from even speaking...one day of quiet :)

I'm sorry, but your post cracked up both me and the Mister. We had one of those summers too. Luckily, school started early for us!

P.S. I got the book in the mail yesterday! Thank you!

My youngest says the EXACT same thing to me about food. And I say the EXACT same thing back to her, too funny!!

Really it doesn't matter if they're home or away, it's always gonna kick your butt!

August 25th for us. TICK, TOCK, TICK, TOCK...
